The Divine Paradox

December 30, 2008

There is no denying that the raw, unfiltered expression that is exuded from people can be rather complex. This complexity is derived, in my opinion, from the axiom that all people are uniquely the same.

Everyone breathes, eats, drinks, sleeps, etc.

Everyone loves, hurts, hopes, etc.

I would also posit that most everyone has an underlying need of belonging. There have been several psychological studies (Baumeister and Leary) that have come to this conclusion in a much more scientific manner, so I wouldn’t err in passing this off as my own revolutionary epiphany. However, I think that just about anyone would agree that people are driven by the need of importance to some extent or another.

Think about it: People love their own ideas. People generally promote their own agendas. People strive to be on top.

Is there anything wrong with this??

Yes and no.

First of all, if you don’t like your own ideas, then you should probably come up with better ones or start to appreciate yourself a little bit. And if you’re not comfortable promoting your own agenda, then you should get a new modus vivendi (or operandi). The pursuit of power, on the other hand, is often where most problems occur.

The cause of nearly every war, if not every war, stems from a desire to attain power. The ability to manipulate and control others seems to be a favorite past time of the human race. We shamelessly wield our power to incite fear and terror in others. Fear promotes action more than any other emotion (aside from hope). This action promotes change. Change is inevitably shaped by the oppressor. Thus, the oppressor dictates the affairs of the inferior.

Solution: With God, everything seems to be in reverse.

The way up is down.

To truly find ourselves, we have to lose ourselves.

Letting go it the first step in actually getting a hold.

Giving is the best way to gain.

First = Last and the converse holds true via the commutative  property

Getting ahead requires you to get behind.

Races aren’t won by the strong and the swift.. but to those who endure.

Kings are defined by their servitude

True strength and power are attained by making yourself vulnerable

Pride yields destruction

Justice is balanced with mercy

Uh huh..

I’ve figured something out..

It’s about the cliches, not the truth.. haha.

So you think that you know me..

December 10, 2008

Here are a few little known facts about me:

I can’t stand the sight of windmills.. it’s really strange because I love idea of renewable energy, but just something about windmills bothers me.

My left foot is slightly bigger than my right.

When I get tired, I sometimes grab my ears.

I think that the term “best friend” is probably the most overused cliche ever.

Two of my biggest pet peeves are: trash in my pockets (I know, weird) and people who constantly text at social events (it’s really rude.. and something you would expect from a junior high kid).

I highlight text when I read it on a computer.

I am a¬† pretty good secret keeper. I keep secrets even if I don’t really associate with the person that I’m keeping secrets for anymore.

I have a pretty eclectic taste in music.

I have really bad study habits… but I usually get the work done and do it well.

I hit the snooze button at least 6 times before getting up.. it’s stupid, I know.

I have an overdeveloped sense of humor that could/probably should get me in trouble sometimes.

I’m pretty good at compartmentalizing things…really good actually.

Fake people bother me… I know a lot of people say that, but seriously

I take nothing at face value.. everything will/must be analyzed and understood.

My Myers Briggs Type Indicator is ESTJ a.k.a. the Executor.. I think it’s fitting in some ways, but I don’t subscribe to everything that it tells me about myself.

I can be/am very ambiguous.

I use ellipses wayyyyy too much… seriously… I do.

Sometimes I wish that I would have went away for college.

Abercrombie, Hollister, American Eagle, and Aeropostale are over-worn and the earmarking of someone who has little taste and likes for other people to decide for them what they wear. (I have clothes from all of these companies, lol)

When I’m stressed.. barriers come down.

I think that the NBA is a waste (borrowing a term from Nick McDonald).

I am so sick of “Christian” authors writing stuff for shock value, rather than the edification of the church. (Recommended Reading from a real Christian author: Frances Chan, Crazy Love)

I have very fine hair… and hope that I never go bald

I have been called an open book, but I don’t think that that is accurate

Playing the piano got me through some pretty difficult times when I was a kid growing up

I was diagnosed with high blood pressure at 18.. standing 6’0″ and weighing 170 pds. Weird? I agree.

Grason = indecisive at times.
